Glossy Hair Without the Hype: A Simple K-Beauty Hair-Finishing Routine

“Glass hair” is a finish, not a measure of hair health. The look comes from a smooth surface that reflects light evenly.

Condition Before You Style

Use conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends, especially if your hair is dry, colored or heat-styled. Detangle gently rather than brushing through knots aggressively.

Dry With Less Friction

Blot excess water instead of rough towel-rubbing. If you blow-dry, use heat protection and enough airflow to smooth the cuticle without repeatedly overheating the same section.

Use a Small Amount of Finisher

A lightweight serum or hair oil can reduce the look of flyaways and add shine. Start with less than you think you need and apply mainly to the ends. Too much can turn glossy into greasy quickly.

Do Not Confuse Shine With Repair

A product can make damaged hair look and feel smoother, but the hair fiber does not biologically heal itself. If ends are severely split, trimming is often more useful than adding another layer of product.

The 60-Second Finish

Once hair is dry, smooth a tiny amount of serum between your palms, press it over the ends and surface flyaways, then stop. The best glossy finish still has movement.
